For some, this day looks like marches, public gatherings, rainbow flags, speeches, music and community events filled with warmth and celebration.

For others, it arrives much more subtly.

A shared post… a careful conversation. A message sent privately to someone who needs encouragement or asmall act of reassurance that says “you are safe with me”.

Solidarity deserves attention too.

Many LGBTQIA+ people around the world, simply existing openly still requires emotional energy, personal courage and trust in the people around them.

And perhaps that is why May 17 continues to resonate so strongly. It centres something profoundly human… the need to be seen fully and treated with dignity.

The History Behind May 17

The origins of IDAHOBIT trace back to a significant moment in modern history.

On May 17, 1990, the World Health Organization removed homosexuality from the International Classification of Diseases.

That decision marked an important shift in global understanding around identity, mental health and human dignity. It helped create space for broader conversations rooted in respect, care and recognition of LGBTQIA+ lives.

Progress rarely arrives in one sweeping moment.

Social change tends to move gradually, shaped by countless conversations, personal stories and individuals willing to speak honestly about their experiences. The significance of May 17 rests partly in what it symbolizes… a collective willingness to rethink harmful assumptions and move toward greater understanding.

Since then, IDAHOBIT has grown into a global day of awareness observed in more than 130 countries. Communities mark the occasion in different ways depending on culture, local realities and personal safety. Some events are large and highly visible. Others are behind closed doors among trusted friends and chosen family.

Both matter.

Human connection does not become meaningful only when it is public. Some of the most important forms of support happen privately, through listening, reassurance and consistent kindness offered without fanfare.

Why Visibility Matters So Much

I’ve often found that these moments arrive through grief, rejection, burnout… or that nagging feeling that even when things appear fine on the outside… something stirs beneath those surface level interactions as we move from one experience to the next.

We spend years crafting identities.

We become the successful one… the wounded one, the desirable one… the overlooked one, the achiever… the healer… the rebel. We wear these identities so long that they begin to feel permanent.

Advaita Vedanta prompts us to ask ourselves…

“What if the self you defend so fiercely isn’t your true self at all?”

“What if much of human suffering stems not from life itself… but from mistaken identity?”

This is where the ancient dialogue between Ātman and Ahamkara begins.

Ātman: Self Beneath the Story

At the heart of Advaita Vedanta lies the concept of Ātman.

Now, this isn’t merely “soul” in the conventional Western sense… nor is it personality, emotion or memory. Ātman refers to the unchanging essence of your true self. Ātman is pure awareness.

It is the silent witness behind every thought you’ve ever had.

Before you say:

“I am, a parent,”
“I am, anxious,”
“I am, successful,”
“I am, broken,”

“I am,” is Conscious Awareness of Being.

That presence…before Thought… is Ātman.

It does not age when the body ages.
It does not diminish when status falls.
It does not fracture when relationships end.

Ātman is eternal, untouched and indivisible. Advaita teaches that Ātman is not separate from Brahman… the infinite universal consciousness that underlies all existence.

Your deepest self is not merely part of the Divine. It is Divine.

The individual self, at its core, is identical with ultimate reality.

That’s a bold claim, isn’t it? Yet countless sages have insisted this realization is experiential.

The problem is that most of us are too distracted by the noise of Ahamkara to notice.

Ahamkara: Ego That Builds the Illusion

Ahamkara is often translated as “ego,” though that word can be a bit simplistic.

More accurately, Ahamkara means “the I-maker.”

It is the psychological mechanism responsible for constructing personal identity.

Ahamkara says:

“I am this body.”
“I am my profession.”
“I am my trauma.”
“I am my achievements.”
“I am what others think of me.”

It creates the narrative self… the story-bound version of who we believe ourselves to be.

Now, ego in this sense isn’t inherently evil. Advaita doesn’t treat Ahamkara as some demonic force to be eradicated. Rather, it’s a functional tool for navigating the material world. You need some degree of identity to fill out forms, maintain relationships and remember where you parked the car.

The trouble begins when we mistake this temporary construct for our essential nature. That’s where suffering enters. With Ahamkara being built upon impermanent things, it is perpetually vulnerable.

Bodies age and careers shift. Relationships change. Public approval evaporates and even cherished beliefs can collapse.

And so the ego lives in fear.

It seeks validation relentlessly because, at its core, it senses its own instability. This is why so much of modern life feels like a never-ending performance.

We chase recognition, affection, status and control. The ego is trying desperately to secure itself in a world where nothing external can provide lasting certainty.

Ahamkara keeps asking:

“Am I enough?”
“Do they still love me?”
“Have I succeeded?”
“Do I matter?”

And beneath all of these questions is one primal plea:

“Do you still want me?”

The Real Source of Human Longing

Much of what we call desire is, in fact, spiritual amnesia. The ego searches outside for what can only be realized within.

We seek love from others because we have forgotten our innate wholeness.
We chase achievement because we confuse accomplishment with being.
We fear rejection because we identify with transient forms rather than eternal awareness.

The ego’s hunger is not truly for romance, applause or power. It is a distorted search for reunion with Source… like a wave panicking over its shape while forgetting it is made entirely of ocean. A wave that believes itself separate will fear disappearance. A wave that remembers its nature as water understands that while form changes, essence remains.

Likewise, when we identify solely as body, personality or social role… fear becomes inevitable.

But when identity shifts to Ātman, fear begins to dissipate.

Self-Inquiry… The Radical Turning Point

Advaita Vedanta doesn’t merely ask us to believe these teachings… but to investigate directly.

This practice is called Ātma-vichāra, or self-inquiry.

At first glance, the questions seem deceptively simple:

Who am I?
What in me is unchanging?
What observes my thoughts?
Who is aware of my emotions?

But these questions are dynamite when pursued sincerely.

Eventually, one notices something extraordinary:

Thoughts come and go.
Emotions rise and fall.
Roles evolve.
Beliefs shift.

Yet awareness itself remains.

The witness does not change, even as the content of experience changes constantly. This is the doorway to recognising Ātman… and this recognition can be deeply unsettling for the ego.

Why?

Because Ahamkara survives by maintaining identification with form. When one begins to observe rather than automatically believe the ego’s narratives, the illusion weakens.

The seeker may realise:

“I am not my fear.”
“I am not my social mask.”
“I am not my past.”
“I am not the endless voice in my head.”

That doesn’t mean these things vanish overnight but they lose their absolute authority.

An Inner Upanishad

The ego asks:

“Am I still worthy?”
“Do I still belong?”
“Will I be abandoned?”

And the deeper Self answers:

“You were never separate.”

That, in essence, is the healing. The Self does not need to “accept” the ego in the way one person accepts another. Ātman is the very ground from which Ahamkara arises.

The ego’s pain is born from forgetfulness. Its suffering stems from believing itself isolated. But separation, is illusion.

Tat Tvam Asi… “Thou Art That.”

You are not apart from ultimate reality. You are an expression of it.

This teaching doesn’t inflate personal identity into grandiosity. Quite the opposite. It dissolves the small self altogether and, in that dissolution… genuine peace emerges.

Why This Matters in Everyday Life

Now, all of this can sound wonderfully lofty, but what does it mean when you’re dealing with ordinary modern chaos… work stress, relationship struggles, insecurity or disappointment?

Quite a lot, actually. When fear arises, Vedanta encourages us to ask:

Is this my true Self speaking?
Or is this conditioned ego seeking reassurance?

That pause can be transformational.

For instance:

If someone rejects you, Ahamkara may scream:

“I am unworthy.”

But Ātman remains untouched.

If success fades, ego may panic:

“I am nothing without achievement.”

Yet Awareness ItSelf remains whole.

If ageing occurs, ego may despair:

“I am losing myself.”

But the Self was never the body to begin with.

This perspective creates spaciousness around suffering.

One can still grieve, love, strive and participate fully in life… without becoming entirely imprisoned by transient identities.

This often leads to greater emotional resilience and reduced dependence on external validation. Deeper inner peace, more authentic relationships and freedom from compulsive self-performance.

Liberation Is Remembrance

One of the most beautiful aspects of Advaita is that liberation is not framed as self-improvement. You do not become divine through effort. You remember that you have never been anything else.

Modern culture often treats spiritual growth like another achievement ladder… meditate harder, heal faster… optimize your consciousness.

But Advaita instructs the seeker…

Stop striving. Look!
Notice what has always been present.

The Self is not something to manufacture as it is what remains when illusion falls away. We are conditioned to believe peace must be earned. Looking beyond Maya…peace is uncovered.

The Final Truth

Ego says: “I need to be chosen.”

Self knows: “I am already whole.”

Ego says: “I fear loss.”

Self knows: “Nothing real can be lost.”

Ego says: “I am separate.”

Self knows: “I am.”

To awaken is to see clearly through the illusion of fragmentation.

Stop begging the world to complete what was never incomplete.

Returning Home to the Self

I think many of us spend years chasing reflections of home in people, achievements, ideologies or possessions. While these pursuits can hold beauty… they often cannot answer the deepest ache within.

You are not merely the character in the story. You are the awareness in which the story unfolds.

This doesn’t mean abandoning individuality or pretending life’s challenges vanish. It means engaging life from a deeper seat of truth. Not escaping the human experience… but seeing through its illusions while remaining fully present within it.

So when the inner voice trembles and asks:

“Do You still want me?”

May The Self answer with timeless clarity:

“I have never been separate from you.”

When questions first surfaced around Psilomethoxin just ahead of our Entheogenesis wisdom festival, the atmosphere shifted almost overnight. A published article challenged the legitimacy of our sacrament and, for many people watching from the sidelines, that seemed enough to settle the matter. Some members of the community drifted away quietly. Others stayed rooted. Many reached out with generosity, encouragement, and an unwavering sense that there was more to the story than a headline could capture.

Since then, the conversation around Psilomethoxin has lived in two worlds at once. There was the lived experience… deeply personal, embodied, transformative for many participants… and there was the demand for rigorous scientific validation. For a while, those worlds appeared to move at different speeds.

Now, fresh data has brought them closer together.

Over the past two years, Sacred Synthesis co-founder Ian Benouis dedicated himself to finding scientific evidence capable of standing beside the experiences so many in the community already knew intimately. The fragmentation pattern… the smaller molecular pieces produced during testing… also aligned with the expected structure.

D: daily life becomes devotion. washing dishes, answering emails, walking gently in the Eternal Now.

E: everything becomes a teacher. joy and sorrow alike point back to the eternal witness.

F: form is fleeting, yet the essence behind all appearances remains untouched.

G: gratitude grows where separation dissolves. every moment becomes grace.

H: heart opens beyond heaviness, resting in wholeness that cannot be broken.

I: “I” softens from separate self into infinite consciousness.

J: just this moment is enough. Presence requires nothing more.

K: kindness arises when you know yourself in all beings.

L: life unfolds as lila… divine play… each experience woven from the same source.

M: mind may wander, but gratitude gently returns it to now.

N: nothing is missing. what you seek is what you are.

O: oneness reveals itself everywhere… in silence, in sound, in sorrow, in song.

P: presence permeates all things. Here. Now. Always.

Q: questions quiet as truth is directly known, beyond thought.

R: resistance relaxes. Reality is embraced as it is.

S: stillness shines beneath all movement, like the screen beneath the movie.

T: thankfulness transforms the ordinary into the sacred.

U: unity underlies all seeming opposites.

V: vastness lives within you, as you.

W: witness consciousness watches all passing forms with gentle clarity.

X: x marks no final destination, for what you are has never been lost.

Y: you are not separate from life… you are life itself.

Z: zenith and zero meet in the same boundless presence: pure Being.

Joseph Goldstein frames compassion like a practice…. something lived, tested and returned to again and again.

In his longtime friendship with Ram Dass, you can feel that shared ground. Bhakti meets Buddhist insight, heart meets awareness and somewhere in the middle there’s a lot of laughter keeping it all human.

Goldstein poses a question that lingers… are we actually willing to open to suffering?

Not in theory.

In real time

In the body… in the chest… in the subtle tightening that happens when something uncomfortable shows up. Compassion begins right there, in that moment where we feel the urge to turn away. It asks for something simple and demanding at the same time… come closer.

The Dalai Lama once said compassion and love are simple… and hard to practice.

Most of us have the intention. The heart leans in that direction. Then life happens… pain, overwhelm, the constant stream of headlines… and something in us pulls back.

There’s a familiar reflex:

“Don’t let this in.”

Goldstein tells that story about Pearl Harbor, where a grandfather’s first response was, “Don’t tell your mother.” The instinct to protect and filter… to soften the blow. On some level, we all do it. We manage reality in small ways so it doesn’t press too hard against the heart.

Watch closely next time discomfort shows up.

Physical pain, emotional tension or a difficult experience to witness. Notice the first reaction. It’s often resistance dressed up in different forms… distraction, numbness… even subtle indifference

The heart knows how to open… but the mind is very skilled at keeping things at a distance.

And then there’s the world itself.

Images, stories, crises… an endless stream that can feel like too much.

The question becomes personal… how do we meet this without shutting down?

The poet Mary Oliver captures this distance clearly.

News of suffering often feels like it’s happening “two counties north”… somewhere abstract… somewhere removed. The mind files it away as distant. The heart stays calm, untouched.

And yet, there’s that line: except as we have loved, all news arrives as from a distant land.

Love brings things close.

It dissolves that sense of “over there.” Compassion grows in that same space.

It doesn’t require us to carry the whole world at once. It asks for presence, for sincerity and for a willingness to feel what’s here without turning away.

The one who witnesses suffering and the suffering itself arise in the same field of awareness.

The boundary feels real and it softens as attention rests more fully in that awareness. Compassion then flows less like an effort and more like a natural expression of what you are.

So… when suffering appears… yours or someone else’s… can you let it in, just a little more than before?

That’s the work.

A man rides on a bicycle, pedalling through the gentle streets of Basel, spring air brushing past his face, the world shifting in ways he could scarcely have imagined.

It feels almost cinematic, yet entirely real. Every 19th of April, I find myself returning to that moment in 1943, when Albert Hofmann… Swiss chemist, meticulous and curious… took what would become the most famous bicycle ride in scientific history.

We now call it Bicycle Day, and while the name carries a certain lightness, the story beneath it holds remarkable weight.

Hofmann had synthesised LSD years earlier, tucked away among other compounds, its potential unknown. On that April afternoon, driven by instinct and a scientist’s persistent curiosity, he deliberately ingested a small dose. What followed unfolded not in a sterile laboratory, but along the cobbled roads of Basel, as he cycled home with reality bending, colours intensifying and perception stretching into unfamiliar territory.

I often think about that ride as a moment where the boundaries of human understanding expanded. Bicycle Day has since grown into a kind of cultural marker, a nod to the beginning of modern psychedelic exploration.

Over the decades, LSD and related substances have woven their way through science, art, psychology and counterculture. Researchers have examined their effects on consciousness, artists have drawn inspiration from their perceptual shifts and entire movements have found language within the experiences they evoke.

From today’s vantage point, it feels less like a singular discovery and more like the opening of a door… one that revealed new questions about the mind, perception and the nature of reality itself.

Studies continue to explore therapeutic applications, particularly in mental health contexts, where renewed interest has sparked careful, controlled research. There’s a sense that we’re still in conversation with Hofmann’s discovery, still learning how to understand and integrate its implications.

At the same time, Bicycle Day carries a more reflective tone for many people.

It invites a pause.

A moment to consider how a single act… a decision made in a laboratory, followed by a solitary ride home… can ripple outward through decades. The story reminds me that progress often arrives in unexpected forms, shaped by curiosity and a willingness to engage with the unknown.

In today’s world, where conversations around psychedelics are evolving with care and nuance, Bicycle Day feels like a gentle anchor point. It offers a way to acknowledge the origins of that conversation without losing sight of its complexity.

It’s a reminder that exploration, whether scientific or personal, carries both promise and responsibility.

As I reflect on it this year, I’m struck by the courage embedded in Hofmann’s story. Curiosity guided him, and curiosity continues to guide us. The questions he opened remain alive, shifting and deepening with each generation.

So however the day passes… whether marked with reflection, conversation, or simply a fleeting thought, there’s something worth holding onto.

One bicycle ride, one curious mind and a moment that subtly reshaped how we understand consciousness.

Jack Kornfield shares a teaching from Ajahn Chah, who listened as a monk described years of profound spiritual visions… light, insight and deep understanding.

Ajahn Chah gently smiled and said, “These are like movies.”

Life unfolds in scenes… joy and sorrow, beauty and difficulty… identity and change. Thoughts move, sensations arise, roles shift and stories evolve.

And through it all, Awareness is Present.

Right now, there is hearing, seeing, feeling and thinking.

All of it appears within a field of knowing.

That knowing presence… clear, open, and awake… is what you are.

Ajahn Chah’s invitation was simple… turn attention toward that awareness.

Rest there.

Recognize its steady, spacious nature, like the sky that allows every cloud to pass.

Ram Dass expressed this in his own playful way. When asked about his identity, he said, “I’m only Jewish on my parents’ side.”

A lighthearted answer, pointing to something deeper… identity can be held lightly, appreciated, explored and expressed in many forms.

What remains constant is Awareness ItSelf.

Even as moments arise and dissolve, That Presence continues.

So the question returns…

“I experience myself as incomplete. I strive to become whole.”

The teacher replied:

“That which knows incompleteness… can it itself be incomplete?”

The seeker observed:

“There are thoughts of lack, movements of desire and the sense of becoming.”

The teacher said:

“All these arise and pass before you.

You are that to which they appear.”

The seeker asked:

“Who am I, then, if not this becoming?”

The teacher answered:

“You are awareness… self-luminous, unchanging, without need of attainment.

You do not move toward wholeness. You are wholeness.”

The seeker reflected:

“When I look at the body, judgment arises.”

The teacher said:

“The body is perceived. Judgment is perceived.

That which perceives is untouched.”

The seeker wondered:

“Why then do old patterns return?”

The teacher replied:

“Habit moves within the field of mind.

You are not bound to its movement.

You are the field in which it appears.”

The seeker asked:

“What is to be done?”

The teacher said:

“See clearly.

Abide as the seer.

Let what comes, come. Let what goes, go.”

The seeker became still and said:

“There is completeness here.”

The teacher replied:

“This is your nature. It has never been absent.”

Thus it is known:

The Self is not attained by effort,

nor improved by becoming.

It is revealed in the recognition

that nothing is lacking.

That which you seek to become…

is it not already present

as the one who seeks?

The movement of mind speaks in terms of versions, outcomes and identities. It arranges experience into paths and possibilities.

This has its place within the play of life. Yet beneath this lies Awareness ItSelf.

Before any assumption arises or perception organizes the world, there is a silent self-evident presence.

It does not come and go.

It does not improve or diminish.

It simply is.

This presence is what you are.

In Advaita Vedanta, this is called Atman… The Innermost Self. And this Self is not separate from Brahman, the infinite reality in which all appearances arise.

The seeker, the process of change and the sense of becoming anll unfold within awareness.

They are known.

And that which knows them remains untouched.

The mind may say, “I am becoming someone new.”

Awareness simply illuminates that thought.

The body may move through states of contraction or openness.

Awareness remains as the space in which these states are felt.

Even the sense of identity… the one who tries, chooses or transforms… is an appearance within this field.

When this is realized there is less concern with shaping experience into a particular form. There is a natural curiosity about the one to whom all experience appears.

Who is aware of this moment?

Stay with that. The attention turns back toward its source. Thoughts may arise. Sensations may move. Still, awareness remains unchanged.

In this recognition, life continues.

Actions happen.

Words are spoken.

Choices appear.

The play of individuality carries on,

expressive and alive.

Yet inwardly, there is clarity. Nothing needs to be added for you to be whole. Nothing needs to be removed for you to be complete. The fullness you seek is the very nature of the one who is seeking.

Rest there, even briefly… and notice that Consciousness is already present. It is open, boundless and at ease.

This is your natural state.

Pause for a moment. Bring to mind one person… just one… whom you trust deeply.
One who is sincere, conscientious and noble in intention. Hold this person gently in your awareness.

This friendship has divine potential.

As a wise father once responded to a heartbroken teen:
“There are so few friends I can trust.”
“Precious, aren’t they?”

Yes, they are.

Now ask: How can I elevate this friendship into divine love?

1. Acceptance, The Foundation of Love.

We all long to be accepted… not judged, fixed or measured. True acceptance is spiritual endurance. It is the strength to remain open-hearted through moods, storms and imperfections.

As Jesus taught:

“Love one another as I have loved you.” (John 13:34)

To love as the Divine loves means:

• Accepting them as they are right now

• Remaining steady through life’s changing conditions

• Offering a deep, unwavering sympathy

Right now, in your heart… accept your friend completely.

2. Belief, Seeing Their Divine Potential

To love someone deeply is to believe in who they are becoming. Human friendship shares life… Divine friendship shares destiny.

Ask them:

“How can I pray for you?”

This simple question opens a doorway. When someone shares their dreams, you are standing on holy ground… the voice of their soul.

Reflect:

• Do you know their dreams?

• Have you shared your own?

Pray for their highest aspirations. In doing so, your love becomes a channel for God’s will.

3. Appreciation, Awakening the Divine in Them.

To appreciate someone is to call forth their highest self.

Begin with one virtue:

• Name it

• Feel it

• Acknowledge it

When you recognize a virtue, you help it grow.

Also embrace:

• Their uniqueness

• Their differences

• Their perfections

Ask yourself honestly:

• Can I forgive them as I forgive myself?

• Can I defend them when they are misunderstood?

• Can I be the one who reconciles?

Divine love does not withdraw… it expands.

4. Respect for Free Will, Sacred Ground.

Every soul is a Expression of God, endowed with freedom.

To interfere with another’s free will is to step onto sacred ground uninvited. You will recognize instantly, they become defensive. This is your signal to
pause, reflect and realign.

Divine love does not control… it does not manipulate… it does not possess

Divine Love invites.

True harmony arises when love flows both ways… freely.

A Necessary Truth

Divine love is not passive in the face of harm.

If someone becomes destructive:

• Set boundaries

• Protect yourself

• Seek intervention if needed

God’s love is infinite… but it does not sanction abuse.

5. Presence, The Gift of Being There.

Sometimes, the highest love is simply this:

Be there because you care, with no agenda or attempt to fix. Just share presence.

The Alchemy of Friendship

When you:

• Accept them

• Believe in them

• Appreciate them

• Honor their freedom

• Stay present

Something extraordinary happens… Human love becomes divine love.

Even one such friendship can transform your life.

The Deeper Teaching

Paramahansa Yogananda reminds us:

“Friendship is the purest form of God’s love because it is born of the heart’s free choice.”

True friends never truly part.
Even when outwardly separated, love remains anchored in the Divine.

Because ultimately:

It is not the person you love…
It is God loving through them.

If God were loving your friend through you…
what would change in how you love them today?

“Ya Alif,
Teach me to feel and know
The joy of Your perfect love.
Let me bring Your divine love,
Your peace and comfort
Into the hearts of all whom I meet.

The world as a whole has forgotten the real meaning of the word love. Love has been so abused and crucified by man that very few people know what true love is. Just as oil is present in every part of the olive, so love permeates every part of cre-ation. But to define love is very difficult, for the same reason that words cannot fully describe the flavour of an orange. You have to taste the fruit to know its flavour. So with love. All of you have tasted love in some form in your hearts; therefore you know a little about what it is. But you have not understood how to develop love, how to purify and expand it into divine love. A spark of this divine love exists in most hearts in the beginning of life, but is usually lost, because man does not know how to cultivate it.

Many people wouldn't think it even necessary to analyze what love is. They recognize love as the feeling they have for their relatives, friends, and others to whom they are strongly attracted. But there is much more to it than that. The only way I can describe real love to you is to tell you its effect. If you could feel even a particle of divine love, so great would be your joy—so overpowering—you could not contain it.

Think deeply about what I am telling you. The satisfaction of love is not in the feeling itself, but in the joy that feeling brings. Love gives joy. We love love because it gives us such intoxicating happiness. So love is not the ultimate; the ultimate is bliss. God is Sat-Chit-Ananda, ever-existing, ever-con-scious, ever-new Bliss. We, as soul, are individualized Sat-Chit-Ananda. "From Joy we have come, in Joy we live and have our being, and in that sacred Joy we will one day melt again." All the divine emotions-love, compassion, courage, self-sacrifice, humility—would be meaningless without joy.

Joy means exhilaration, an expression of the ultimate Bliss.

Man's experience of joy originates in the brain, in the subtle centre of God-consciousness that the yogis call the sahasrara, or thousand-petaled lotus. Yet the actual feeling of joy is experienced not in the head but in the heart. From the divine seat of God-consciousness in the brain, joy descends into the heart centre,? and manifests there. That joy comes from God's bliss… the essential and ultimate attribute of Spirit.

Though joy may be born in conjunction with certain outer conditions, it is not subject to conditions; it often manifests without any material cause. Sometimes you wake up in the morning "walking on air" with joy, and you don't know why.

And when you sit in the silence of deep meditation, joy bubbles up from within, roused by no outer stimulus. The joy of meditation is overwhelming. Those who have not gone into the silence of true meditation do not know what real joy is.

We feel much happiness in the satisfaction of a desire; but in youth we often feel in the heart a sudden happiness that comes as if from nowhere. Joy expresses itself under certain conditions, but it is not created by those conditions. Thus, when someone receives a thousand dollars and exclaims, "Oh, how happy I am!" the condition of having received a thousand dollars has merely served as a pickaxe, releasing a fountain of joy from the hidden reservoir of bliss within. So, in human experience, certain events are usually required to bring forth joy, but the joy itself is the perennial native state of the soul. Love also is native to the soul, but love is secondary to joy; there could be no love without joy. Can you think of love without joy? No. Joy attends love. When we speak of the misery of unrequited love, we are talking of an unfulfilled longing. The actual experience of love is always accompanied by joy.

In the universal sense, love is the divine power of attraction in creation that harmonizes, unites, binds together. It is opposed by the force of repulsion, which is the outgoing cosmic energy that materializes creation from the cosmic consciousness of God. Repulsion keeps all forms in the manifested state through maya, the power of delusion that divides, differentiates, and disharmonizes. The attractive force of love counteracts cosmic repulsion to harmonize all creation and ultimately draw it back to God. Those who live in tune with the attractive force of love achieve harmony with nature and their fellow beings, and are attracted to blissful reunion with God.

In this world, love presupposes duality; it springs from a mutual exchange or suggestion of feeling between two or more forms. Even animals express a certain type of love for one another and for their offspring. In many species, when one mate dies, the other usually succumbs soon after. But this love in animals is instinctive; they are not responsible for their love. Human beings, however, have a great deal of conscious self-determination in their exchange of love with others.

In man, love expresses itself in various ways. We find love between man and wife, parent and child, brother and sister, friend and friend, master and servant, guru and disciple-as with Jesus and his disciples and the great masters of India and their chelas-and between the devotee and God, soul and Spirit.

Love is a universal emotion; its expressions are distinguished by the nature of the thought through which it moves.

Hence, when love passes through the heart of the father, fatherly consciousness translates it into fatherly love. When it passes through the heart of the mother, motherly consciousness translates it into motherly love. When it passes through the heart of the lover, the consciousness of the lover gives that…

In ENM and PolyAmory, communication thrives within the quality of presence we bring to it.

During moments of tension… whether with a partner or within a broader relationship network… there is an invitation to become space. To be open, grounded awareness that allows emotions, perspectives and truths to unfold naturally.

This One recalls entering a difficult conversation after a rupture with such an intention… and noticed how listening deepened, understanding emerged and connection returned with a gentle steadiness.

In polyamory, where multiple emotional landscapes often overlap, this kind of presence offers a stabilizing center that supports honesty, care and mutual recognition.

Being “no-thing” in this sense is a practice of spaciousness. It looks like listening with full attention, allowing feelings to arise and move. One learns to welcome the pauses and to stay with curiosity as conversations or relationships evolve in their own way.

This openness creates room for partners and metamours to feel seen and held within the moment, which nurtures trust across the entire relationship ecosystem.

In choosing to be space, even briefly, you may notice how ease begins to circulate again… revealing the quiet strength and intimacy that live within shared presence.

It is a moment of grace that nourishes the soul and invites spiritual growth and fulfilment.

The experience of darshan unfolds beyond the grasp of the thinking mind. It calls for presence, openness and reverence. Simply to gaze upon Being is enough.

What is received in that moment arises from a deeper source and each person receives it in a way uniquely attuned to their own inner journey.

Darshan can be understood through two dimensions: the outer experience and the inner unfolding.

Outwardly, the gestures are simple and meaningful. In the Hindu tradition, one approaches with humility, often bowing before the Self. There is a meeting of eyes… a moment in which the devotee beholds the Divine, and the Divine beholds the devotee.

Within, a transformation begins to take place that Paramahamsa Vishwananda describes as the gentle clearing of the mirror of the soul, allowing the light of God to shine more brightly from within.

“When you come for darshan… what I see is your true Self. The beauty that you hold within. That is what I want you to see for yourself.”

Darshan becomes a remembrance and recognition of the Self that has always been present.

Each darshan is a unique and sacred exchange between the individual expression and the Divine Reflection.

Some experience deep peace. Some feel a sense of healing or release. Others encounter a profound wave of love and acceptance.

Some rest in stillness, quiet and expansive.

Every experience carries its own meaning and blessing, given in alignment with what the soul is ready to receive.

One truth flows through every darshan… the presence of unconditional Divine Love.

In that moment, the Divine meets you fully, perceiving the essence of your being and supporting your path with grace.

Through this seeing, a deeper recognition awakens within and self inquiry arises:

Am I willing to be seen as I truly am?

In darshan, the seer and the seen are One.

For many, love has come packaged with cultural conditioning that force one into limitation. Pick a single person and stay in that lane we are told. That structure may feel grounding and stable at times but for others (especially folks across LGBTQIA+ communities, diasporic cultures, or those shaped by complex relational histories) that script can feel incomplete at best… and lowkey abusive at worst. We sacrifice our authentic expressions to prove care through exclusivity… and the light within begins to dim.

Love IS NOT a Limited Resource

One narrative we are taught is that love fades or runs out and that giving more to one connection takes something away from another. We are taught that attention equals worth and exclusivity equals depth. Real life tends to be messier than that… and, in many ways, more generous.

The idea of PolyAmory has long existed in many cultures outside dominant Western frameworks… where community care, chosen family and layered relationships have always mattered. ENM simply gives language to a Thought Form that has already been lived.

Being Chosen on Purpose

“I choose you again and again / alongside every other meaningful connection in life…”

That choice is experienced differently from traditional monogamous relationship models. It doesn’t rely on rules or expectations and shows up through communication, effort and honesty… even when honesty feels uncomfortable.

For folks navigating identity, healing or past relational harm… clarity matters more than you could imagine. Clear agreements, clear care and clear respect for boundaries are paramount for each relationship to not only survive… but to thrive.

Ethical non-monogamy isn’t a free-for-all. It asks for more awareness, communication and accountability then most are willing to observe. It asks people to check in with themselves and the reflections of self they share space with. What feels safe in this moment? What feels aligned with this one? What needs tending in our connection?

And… it allows space for answers to change over time.

Remember, the only moment that exists is the Present. Past and future are concepts. A promise made in one moment may not still hold validity when a shift has occurred and a new reality is being experienced.

Connection Without Ownership

Much harm in relationships… across all structures actually… comes from the idea of ownership. The belief that closeness gives permission to control, limit or define someone else.

ENM / Polyamory invites each connection with another to be free from controlling their human experience… or what they do with their own being. You experience intimacy without being confined. Belonging is built through trust… not possession.

In this union, phrases like “mine” shift in meaning to “our”. They point toward care, significance and shared experience… never ownership.

Such a shift can feel unfamiliar at first, especially for anyone who has experienced abandonment, exclusion or instability. Naming those feelings matters just as much as moving gently matters. There’s room for That to Express.

Making Space for Real Feelings

Now, this kind of love doesn’t magically remove hard feelings.

Jealousy can still show up. So can fear, insecurity and comparison. Those responses don’t make anyone “bad” at relationships. They make sense, especially in a world that has taught people to equate exclusivity with safety. What changes is how those feelings are met.

You begin to feel curiosity for the human experience instead of shame, utilizing communication instead of silence. You experience support from your loved ones instead of dismissal.

For many queer and trans folks, people of color or those who have navigated marginalization… relationships already require a level of intentionality that mainstream narratives often overlook. There’s already practice in building chosen family and negotiating boundaries, as well as holding complex relationship structures that change with experience. This framework simply extends that practice into romantic and intimate spaces where multiple truths exist at once. Care can be deep and still expanding while security can exist alongside vulnerability.
More than one connection can matter… fully.

Connection as a Repeated Choice

At the heart of all of this is intention.

“We’re here because we want to be.”

It creates freedom… a freedom that can feel both comforting and, at times, a bit exposing. Staying in aligned relationships becomes a conscious choice… every time. There is never the confining terms of obligation… no ‘need’ being fulfilled by another… binding you to them, or them to you.

Choice is expressed through showing up… listening… and repair when things feel off. Through respecting boundaries… both personal and shared. Building connections that feel honest, affirming and sustainable for everyone involved.

And importantly, this kind of love doesn’t ask anyone to shrink… but to Be… to live their best life…. to experience human identity, culture and history in all its fullness.

Everyone Gets to Be Chosen

Being free to experience Love… in any moment it arises… does not mean replacing anyone or that more connections automatically mean less quality. When done with care, no one is being edged out… each have their space. No one is being reduced…
everyone is being chosen… for who they are… in the connection that exists.

There is always a moment before everything begins to feel named.

Silent Awareness is there, soft… open… quietly alert. No identity sits fully formed, nor role settles into place. Experience breathes without labels, without urgency and without need to declare anything at all.

Listening to the opening of Spectrum, That is remembered… the Void of Consciousness before the colour of experience manifests… before thought gathers expression and is birthed into forms that can be named.

This one keeps returning to That, as Advaita Vedanta gestures toward this space of Awareness, whole and complete, already present before any description attempts to shape it. Nothing added or removed. Just this… Conciousness void of form… from which EveryThing vividly appears.

“Light and paper thin” floats through the song with an almost teasing quality. Something undeniable… yet impossible to hold. There is Presence without weight. Identity has not yet dressed ItSelf. It has no fixed outline… no edges asking for definition.

Then comes the shift… playful… expansive… almost mischievous.

When Color Begins to Dance

“Let the spectrum in”. The spectrum feels alive, expressive and uncontained as it arises within conscious perception.

Advaita often speaks of Maya. A creative way for The Infinite to appear as the beautifully particular. The spectrum becomes experienced itself… gender, sexuality, culture, relationship, sensation, memory and identity. Every shade carries validity and each expression holds texture.

Within LGBTQ+A communities, this spectrum resonates deeply as gender moves beyond binaries, sexuality flows beyond fixed categories and identity evolves across ones lived experiences. There is no singular way to exist… no single story that defines authenticity. Expression is exploration of OnesSelf… and Being becomes Its art.

Ethnically diverse perspectives deepen this InnerStanding as Cultural identity, ancestral memory, language and lived experience all bring different hues into the spectrum. A person raised in one cultural context may experience relational expression differently from someone shaped by another. Each adds richness to the palette.

Connection does not need to follow a single path. Love can move across multiple bonds, each one unique and meaningful. Through all of this color, Awareness does not shift… it simply IS, through each expression. As light passing through a prism, the diversity never leaves the source.

Saying a Name, Lighting a World

“Say my name and every color illuminates.”

We are taught this was the first Separation. as names divided innerstanding of The One, into infinite “others”. Yet the gold bracelet… the gold ring… the gold earrings… are all gold. Names carry not only the illusion of a seperate entity but the weight and history associated with them. A name activates memory.

Culture, language, personal history and embodiment all rise in Awareness.

Identity becomes vivid as the spectrum brightens instantly. For many on the path of self-realization, naming becomes reclamation of Knowing. A declaration of sovereignty after releasing periods of cultural or familial programming. It becomes a movement into visibility where identity aligns with lived truth in that moment.

This one has witnessed how powerful those moments can be. A chosen name spoken with care can land like warmth across the body but Advaita points us to look beneath this experience. What exactly is being named? That Which Is.

Yet awareness ItSelf does not change.

Like a cinema screen allowing countless films to play, awareness holds every identity without becoming any single one.

Each name appears, shines, evolves and transforms over time with hues added and removed through experience.

The screen remains untouched.

That does not reduce the importance of naming… of meaning. Naming opens a doorway releasing previously integrated labels that may have bound one from evolving towards its authentic expression.

Every color illuminates and in that light, identity becomes celebration rather than limitation.

Many Shades of Living Truth

The song moves through color… blue, grey, black… each tone carries its own emotional texture.

Blue often feels expansive… fluid… ocean-like. There is softness alongside depth. This expansiveness often mirrors relational experiences in Poly as love expands through flowing connections and space is made for multiple bonds, expressions of affection and care within various forms of intimacy.

Grey introduces structure, agreements and boundaries. Those conversations shaped with intention. ENM thrives within this space of clarity. Consent, Care and Communication become essential as firm relational architecture is built through Conscious Co-Creation.

Black arrives with intensity, depth, transformation, shadow… power. Sometimes grief moves through this space… other times liberation emerges from it. Certain experiences carry memory within the body and emotional responses may arise from earlier harm, survival strategies or deeply embedded patterns.

Nothing here requires dismissal or urgency toward resolution.

Awareness allows all of it.

Trauma-informed presence invites gentleness, slowness and regulation. Space for the nervous system to feel safe. Within queer, trans and non-binary communities, this becomes especially important as many lived experiences include marginalization, rejection or systemic harm. Healing does not follow a linear path.

Advaita does not override that reality. Instead, it offers a broader holding.

All experiences arise within Awareness. Joy, grief, longing, connection, rupture… all move through the same field. There is room for EveryThing.

Love as Movement, Not Ownership

Polyamory and ethical non-monogamy often challenge conventional ideas about love. Cultural narratives frequently present love as something contained, exclusive or tied to ownership and hierarchy.

Through Advaita, love appears differently. Love flows and expresses. Love moves through Awareness as Conscious Connection.

No one holds love as property. No one controls its direction entirely. Instead, relationships become spaces of learning… presence meeting presence, experience meeting experience. These moments create opportunities for relational structures rooted in care and respect.

Communication becomes essential as boundaries become acts of love rather than restriction and autonomy becomes honored without fear.

Gender-expansive identities naturally align with this openness.

When identity itself resists rigid categorization, relational expression often follows. There is freedom to explore, evolve and define connections in ways that feel authentic rather than inherited socially acceptable structures that limit the Infinite Potential of Love.

Ethnic diversity adds further nuance when different cultural frameworks influence how love, partnership and community are understood. Some traditions emphasize collective connection while others center individual autonomy. Within ENM these perspectives can coexist, creating richer relational ecosystems because no single narrative defines love.

No single structure defines truth.

The spectrum continues expanding and Awareness remains steady through every moment of expansion.

Fear, Safety and The Source

“We will never be afraid again.”

The royal plural is reassurance. Fear often arises alongside identity, attachment and the possibility of loss. Within marginalized communities, fear may also stem from lived experiences of exclusion or harm.

Honor that reality fully. Fear becomes something to listen to rather than suppress as the body carries intelligence. Safety becomes a priority when prior experiences have taught us to be cautious.

Emotions arise within awareness. Sensations move through awareness. Thoughts appear and dissolve within awareness. The center does not fracture, even when experience feels intense.

This does not eliminate fear… fear may still arise. Waves continue to move though something begins to open when attention rests gently in Awareness ItSelf. There is space… Breath. There is a sense of grounding that does not depend on external conditions.

For those navigating polyamory, identity exploration or healing journeys, this grounding can feel supportive and inviting. Conversations become less reactive. Boundaries become clearer and emotional waves feel more navigable.

Presence deepens.

And within that presence, fear begins to loosen its grip.
